Central Alabama RC will have a called meeting this coming Saturday, 10/23/10 at the Boathouse, Aldridge Gardens. Time will be from 9 am till 10 am.
This meeting is open to everyone, members (are expected), the public and folks from Aldridge Gardens are invited.
Topics to be discussed:
1) Taking up monies from the members to offer a donation to Aldridge Gardens for allowing us to run our boats there.
2) To have a one time 'away' meeting at a different location than Aldridge Gardens. Several locations have been brought up.
3) To have an event at Aldridge Gardens (with other clubs) The Gardens has told us they would promote the event for us. Such as a regatta/swap meet.
4) A pier or boardwalk into the lake for a better launch site for our boats.
5 Do we need or want officers.
6) Some discussion has come up about some non-members using the lake. Maybe some form of ID for members?
Aldridge Gardens has responed to the donation, and asked that we apply that to the pier/boardwalk project.
Again, this meeting is open to everyone! Please try to attend

The Birmingham News sent out a reporter and photographer to Aldridge Gardens today. It was very short notice, we only learned about it yesterday. Bill Harris, John Pike and myself were able to be there today.( A very warm thank you to my wife who helped set up/take/take down, load/unload. She also ran one of my boats so we could get as many on the lake as possible. Thank you Josie.)
Allwere interviewed and had our mug shots taken. They took several shots of all the boats. We each had a great time, except for the heat. WOW, was it hot today!!!
Look for the article in the Birmingham News, in the Hoover section and maybe in the Northeast section of the paper next week.
See y'all the 17th.

With turn outs in the 8 to 10 member range and picking up two new members this last Saturday, we have decided to have two meetings per month. Meetings will now be held the first & third Saturdays of each month. This also gives those that have to work some weekends a chance to make a meeting.

Central Alabama RC is changing it's meeting place!!
The City of Hoover owned Aldridge Botanical Gardens has offered us a new home. We will have access to their 5 acre lake to run electrics and wind powered models. I guess steam would be OK, there are none in the club now. We will have close access to the water for loading and unloading our gear.
The area has shade, picnic tables, a house boat with soda machines & meeting area. The bank is rock walled, deep enough to launch pretty much anything we have and very clear water. All the bush, limbs and stabs will be cleaned out by the Gardens!
The first date has not been set for our first run there is still up in the air. An e-mail will be sent out to all members.
